There are up to 200 known types of zoonoses according to the WHO.
These are diseases or infections that are transmitted from a vertebrate animal to humans, through some fluid such as urine or saliva, by bites, scratches or through an insect, especially mosquitoes.
It is caused by different parasites, viruses or bacteria and can cause diseases such as:
- Brucellosis
- Yellow fever
- Visceral leishmaniasis
- Rage
- Scabies
- Toxoplasmosis
- Tuberculosis (bovine)
- Lyme’s desease
Zoonosis can be prevented in different ways, and with the help of various practices it will be possible to reduce the risk at the community and personal level, we recommend some ways:
- If you have pets or will be in contact with vertebrate animals, use insect repellent to avoid animal-human contagion through them.
- Make sure your pets have all their vaccinations.
- After living with animals try to have a good hand washing.
- Constantly disinfect the areas where animals live.
